County XI vs IND Day 1: KL Rahul warms up for test series with a brilliant hundred
Xtra Time Web Desk: KL Rahul scored a brilliant 101 off 150 balls on the opening day of the practice game against County XI on Tuesday to stake his claim for the first test match against England at Nottingham next month. Riding on Rahul’s 101 retired hurt and Ravindra Jadeja’s (75 off 146) the visitors ended the day at 306 for 9 despite early hiccups. Rahul’s knock was studded with 11 fours and a six. Rahul and Jadeja shared a partnership of 127-run for the fifth wicket after top-order failed to make optimal use of proper game time.
Stand in captain Rohit Sharma (9), Mayank Agarwal (28), Cheteshwar Pujara (21) and Hanuma Vihari (24) didn’t spend enough time at the crease in the designated first-class game.
India rested five players from the squad that played the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand at Southampton last month. Captain Virat Kohli had a stiff back on Monday evening and so was advised rest by the medical team. Ajinkya Rahane had a swelling in his left hamstring and had to be given an injection. Both are expected to be fit before the intra squad match starting July 28.
